A students perspective on why they practice Yoga.

Read on for some sage advice for anyone wondering why they should start doing Iyengar Yoga at Balance Point Yoga.


1. How long have you been doing Yoga? – about 19 years

2. What do you feel are the benefits for you, personally?


Yoga is an essential part of my personal maintenance. Yoga allows my muscles to stay supple and flexible which offsets the strength and muscle building work I do at the gym. The focus on structural (spinal) alignment in Iyengar assists me to manage my scoliosis. If ever I experience muscular discomfort it does not hang around for long. I found Iyengar to be the best style for me as the concentration and application required to get the most out of the asanas, is like a form of meditation, as it allows me to focus and eliminate distractions .

3. What advice would you give to someone who is considering starting Yoga classes?


Don’t hold back, the younger you start the more benefits you will realise. Also take your time to choose the style of yoga that works for you. I found Iyengar the best fit for me due to its focus on alignment and encouragement to stay in poses for a reasonable amount of time allowing the body to adjust and find the pose rather than moving quickly through them.
